Green Iguana

 

 

 

Latin Name: Iguana iguana

 

Size: Adults grow anywhere from 4 to 6 feet

 

Lifespan: Iguanas can live up to 20 years in captivity

 

Requirements:

 

Enclosure: Iguanas need a lot of room. Make sure that their enclosure is at least 3 to 4 times the size of the iguana.

 

Substrate: Indoor outdoor carpeting that is flat surfaced not raised, Ingestable sand or paper towels and also newspaper will be just fine.

 

Lighting/Heat: UVA and UVB such as ultraviolet light should be used as it provides proper lighting for their growth.

 

Temperature: 80 F-85 F on average also  remember to mist your Iguana daily.

 

Cleaning: Water and 5% bleach to clean the environment. Make sure you always rinse thoughly. Water must be changed everyday.

 

Enviroment: Tropical environment with about  70 F humidity. They should have braches to climb and bask and a large water bowl to soak in, but make sure that there is a rock or branch of some sort that they will be able to climb out of the water safely.   

 

Vitamins: It is a good idea to buy Vitamin D3 to sprinkle on their food once of twice a week.

 

Diet: Iguana are Herbivores. Turnip Greens, Collard Greens,Mustard Greens, Escarole. Squash, Snap Peas, Zucchini, Asparagus, Okra, Sweet potato and Carrots. Bananas, Strawberries, Blackberries, Grapes, Raspberries, melon, cantaloupe, Honeydew, Watermelon, aapples and papaya. You can occasionally feed your Iguana tomatoes, Roamine Lettuce and Pineapple and Citrus. You can also give your Iguana Red Hibiscus but be completely positive that the plant has not been spayed with any pestisides as you can kill them.
