Hamster Care Sheet

2-4 years
Behavior: Hamsters are nocturnal therefore they are
active at night. They need toys to keep them busy and a wheel to run. Be very
careful when you wake up a Hamster so you do not startle them.
Housing: An aquarium is appropriate or cage if it
allows enough room to burrow and have plenty of room to play. Tunnels are great
for hamsters.
Bedding: Carefresh Bedding
will keep the environment fresher then others. You could also use Pine
Shavings.
Diet: Kaytee, Higgins, Sunseed or Fiesta Brands and Rodent Blocks. Fresh fruits
and Veggies such as Strawberries, Bananas, Apples, Carrots, Grapes, Broccoli
and Peas. Hamsters also enjoy small amounts of Timothy Hay.
Important things to remember:
-
Hamsters love to chew
so make sure they have plenty to chew on.
-
Wait a few hours
after you take your Hamster home before handling because you could stress out
him/her out. Let your Hamster get use to their new environment.
-
Fresh Food everyday
to every other day.
-
Make sure they have
Water everyday.
-
Hamsters usually go
to the bathroom in the corners of their environment, so make sure if you do not
do a complete bedding change everyday to every other day that you at least
clean the corner where they used the bathroom.
-
Wash your hands
before and after handling the animal. If you have any food smells on your hands
your hamster may mistake your finger for food and possibly bite.
