Chinese Water Dragons & Australian Water Dragons

 

 

Native To: Southeast Asia or Australia

 

Size: They can reach up to 3 feet in length

 

Lifespan: In captivity they can live till about 18 years

 

Habitat: Tropical Habitat

 

Requirements:

 

Enclosure: Water Dragons need to have lots of room. It is best if you have a tank because they like to rub their noses against the mesh which can cause problems.

 

Substrate: Indoor/Outdoor Carpeting that is flat surfaced not raised or Potting Soil. You could also use newspaper or paper towels but your Water Dragon would not be as happy.

 

Lighting/Heating: UVA and UVB bulbs such as Ultraviolet light should be used as it provides proper lighting for their growth.

 

Temperature: 85 F – 88 F during the day. Basking temperatures between 90 F – 95 F.  Nighttime temperature should be 75 F – 80 F.

 

Cleaning: Water and 5% bleach should be used to clean the environment. . Make sure you always rinse thoughly. They must have water available and changed everyday.

 

Environment: Humidity level should be between 60% and 80%. It is very important that you mist your Water Dragon everyday. NON-TOXIC Plants should be used to maintain the humidity. They love to climb so branches would be a good idea so they are able to bask. A large water dish must be provided so they are able to bath and do a little swimming. If the water is deep that you put a rock or branch so they are able to get out of the water safely.

 

Vitamins:  It is a good idea to buy Vitamin D3 to sprinkle on their food once of twice a week.

 

Diet: Water Dragons are Omnivorous. They can be fed Crickets, Earthworms, Meal worms, Jumbo worms, Feeder goldfish and if they adults they can be fed Baby mice. They also eat greens such as Romaine Lettuce, Yellow squash, Mustard Greens, Sweet potato,Green Beans and Carrots. Fruit such as Bananas, Raspberries, Strawberries and Blueberries.
